Hall Place & Gardens

One of the South East’s best-kept secrets. This historic house and garden, rich in fascinating history, welcomes visitors all year round with a range of booked guided tours on different themes. We have public events and stunning spaces for weddings and other celebrations. Garden entry is free.

The house is a Grade 1 listed country house built in 1537 that still retains many of its original features from the distinctive checkerboard style of masonry to the beautiful 17th century redbrick courtyard and spectacular plaster ceiling.

Visitors to Hall Place and Gardens are able to explore all of the fascinating parts of the building on one of our booked themed guided tours, along with the Tudor and Stuart Discovery Gallery, a space for families to learn more about English History.

The gardens offer some of the best quality green space in the area and have won the Civic Trust's Green Flag Award every year since 1996! This 65 hectare estate offers some outstanding examples of horticulture and wildlife, whatever the season there is always a spectacular show in the award-winning gardens so watch out for squirrels, wagtails, geese, exotic ring-necked parakeets and even the resident kingfisher.

Don’t miss the Queen’s Beasts, our enormous heraldic animal topiary planted in 1953 in celebration of the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

In the former walled gardens you can find our model gardens, as well as our kitchen and cut flower garden.

Hall Place & Gardens is responsible for the care and management of Bexley’s extensive museum collection, comprising over 50,000 objects. The collection is diverse ranging from natural history, geology and archaeology to costume, art works and furniture.

We are one of the most sought-after venues for weddings, ceremonies, private and corporate events in the South East with almost 500 years of history. Whether you are looking for a stunning venue for your wedding ceremony, a place to host your entire day’s celebration or a party to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, our dedicated team can help you plan every single detail making it a truly memorable experience. We also offer complete exclusivity for the hired spaces listed below which allows for a variety of ways to use the venue.
